Piaggio are currently testing a Vespa based on their LX 50 model which h has a 50 cc gas engine and a 1000w electric motor. This combination of electric and gas engines provides approximately 25% more power, helping to reduce fuel consumption when starting or accelerating. It also reduces gasoline consumption by 20%. The Vespa can also operate in locations where engine fumes would be unwanted (inside buildings) by switching into a low-speed electric only mode.
