Richard Branson visited the site of “The World” development in Dubai yesterday in order to promote Virgin Atlantic’s announcement of flights between London and Dubai starting in June. Branson jumped out of a red London telephone box and surprised journalists today as they arrived for a private tour of the island. Then he planted the Union Jack (British Flag) on the island of “Great Britain” which is one of 300 super luxury man-made island developments that collectively make up “The World”, a series of islands shaped to form the map of the world which is said to be visible from space to the naked eye. The islands are being constructed by Nakheel, developer of more than $30 billion of real estate in Dubai.
