Case Of Romanée-Conti Burgundy Sold For $170,375

Once again a oenological record has been set, this time for a six-magnum case of 1985 Romanée-Conti from Burgundy, France, went for $170,375, the equivalent of more than $14,200 a regular-sized wine bottle. A single magnum is equivalent to two bottles. Five other lots were sold for more than $100,000 during the fine wine sale at Christie’s, including a double-magnum of Chateau Cheval-Blanc 1947 that realized $135,125 and an eight-case lot of “five-star” wines from the 2000 Bordeaux vintage that fetched $105,750. The top California lot of the night was 21 bottles of Napa Valley’s Screaming Eagle spanning the 1995-2002 vintages, which made $52,875. The previous world record for a case of wine at auction was $136,000 bid for the 1971 vintage of Romanée-Conti at Christie’s in January.
